Prior to the Indonesian invasion, the origin house of Uat which was also known as “Sepulu Nera” was erected in the old hamlet. Today piles of rocks still stand in the old village together with the altar for animal sacrifices and ceremonial stones and wood. After independence, the community of Uat began to rebuild their origin houses in the new hamlet. These structures are considered to be somewhat simplified as they were not able to follow closely the architectural traditions of the past. \r\n\r\nWhat follows is the story of the establishment of the Uat hamlet according to the keepers of the word of Manephat and Bili Ubun. \r\n\r\nAccording to the legends of the community of Uat (Sepulu Nera), during the rainy season the ancestors were looking for land on which to make a good life for themselves. Prior to this, landslides would carry away their homes on whatever piece of land they selected to build them. \r\n\r\nOne day, one of the ancestors noticed a dog whose fur, in spite of the heavy rain that was falling, stayed dry. Taking stock of this, they decided to place some ashes from the fire in the dog’s fur and then followed it to a green and spacious place. The houses that were relocated to this site are Lika Ubun, Lika Loko (Loro) and Bili Ubun (suku). Arriving at the new site, they said ritual prayers at a sacred place called “Napa Lamak Toe Hoe” and commenced naming the rocks, wood and other objects in this area.
